500,000+ Cell Tower Locations, Where Do We Start?

Airwave Advisors® has a proprietary database that tracks cell tower locations, rents, and buyout prices. This information empowers you in negotiations with cell tower companies and carriers, to ensure you secure the best deal.

To help you get started on your cell tower journey, we want to share with you 5 Things You Need to Know About Cell tower Locations.

1. You Are Your Best Asset

If you are looking to have a cell tower placed on your property, please do not call us, we cannot help you. You are your best asset.

If you would like to submit your property for consideration to the major wireless carriers, please use the following links below:

T-Mobile Submit A Site

2. How Do You Get A Cell Tower?

We wrote an in-depth article on the process of getting a cell tower, which you can read about here.

The truth is 99% of the time the cell towers come to you. They typically do not appear because you reached out to companies to lease your property.

When developing new cell towers it all comes down to the wireless carrier’s need to build a tower at the time and their budget to construct. If they have a need and a budget, they will start looking to build in a specific area. If there is no need, or no budget, there will be no new cell tower.

Having your property fall right into the cross-hairs of the specific area they are looking to build out takes a lot of luck and good fortune.

3. Cell Towers Are All Around You

Depending on where you live, you may see the cell towers as grey poles along the highway, or hidden from your view built out as stealth installations. Unless you are in the most remote of areas, you can rest assured there is a cell tower nearby. There are an estimated 500,000 cell towers across the US.

4. Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile Are Building More Towers

Verizon Wireless, AT&T, and T-Mobile are all building more cell towers in 2020. T-Mobile cell towers we mostly see being built out by mid to small sized tower companies. This type of development is called build-to-suit. T-Mobile commits to leasing from the company, once they have the tower erected.

This is very similar to a developer building out a building for example for Starbucks and once the building is built, Starbucks will occupy the space and start paying rent.

5. If You Are In Talks With A Cell Tower Company, Hire An Expert

Airwave Advisors has over 16 years of experience in order to help cell tower landlords like you to maximize their wireless leases. We assist private landowners, commercial real estate ownersmunicipalities, and anyone else who either has a cell tower, or has been contacted for a cell tower. The cell tower companies have experts on their side, shouldn’t you?

    Hi,
Have a 99 year Cell Tower lease for my church property. The company is currently upgrading the power out put of their equipment in the tower.
    1. I am thinking I should contact to increase the amount paid for the lease. Is this a good idea?
    2. The workers has blocked off portion of my church premises while working of their tower and the noise and their activities are adversely affecting our ministry. What is my recourse?

    Thank

      Hi Michael,

The answer to both of your questions will be found in your cell tower lease agreement. You can identify your opportunity to increase their rent (or not) depending on what their rights are with the cell tower lease agreement. In regards to their construction activities, you will need to review your cell tower lease to see if they are in breach of the agreement and if you can put them in default. Feel free to reach out if you would like to discuss further.

      All the best,

      Nick G. Foster

a tower company has offered me a price to purchase a 10000 sq ft of land for a tower is this a good way to go or is it better to lease it.

    • Nick Foster on November 16, 2018 at 1:31 pm

      Hello,

Typically you will always make more leasing your land instead of selling it to a cell tower company. Feel free to give me a call at (858) 216-2649 if you would like to discuss further.

      All the best,

    • Nick Foster on July 5, 2018 at 9:42 am

      Hi David,

We do not focus on bringing new cell towers to properties. I recommend proceeding with caution in hiring anyone who promises they will make best efforts to bring you a cell tower.

      All the best,

Great site, thanks for the information. I myself am now in negotiations with Crown Castle on a new lease for a tower in KY. I also have two other companies trying to buy out my lease. Your information was helpful in my decision making process, along with two weeks of internet searches for the future of cell towers. I see the future is bright and it will take more than they are offering to buy my lease.

I am glad you found that our information added value to your opportunity. Feel free to give us a call if you need any assistance.

How would I go about leasing property or even selling the property for a cell tower

    • Nick Foster on November 18, 2016 at 8:30 am

      Hi Kathy,

Typically cell tower tenants come to you. If you want to pursue tenants, please review the article above and reach out to the carriers directly.

I have Verizon and within 3 miles of my home, it is mostly 1-2 bars of 3G. They have submitted multiple tickets to look into building a cell tower and still have not. Besides calling advanced technical support, what else can I do? There is a one acre lot next door to me for sale.

    • Nick Foster on May 26, 2015 at 8:19 am

      Hi Tyler,

Thank you for the post on our blog. It is challenging to get a new cell tower constructed near your residence. There has to be a strong RF need inside the carrier to cover an area to increase their coverage and capacity. Then they have to get the budget to construct – funds that may or may not be available at the time. If you would like to pursue this request further, check out our blog post “How Do I Get A Cell Tower?” to learn more.

      All the best,

      Nick Foster
