Airwave Advisors In The News

Nick G. Foster, President and Founder of Airwave Advisors, was interviewed this month by CoStar News regarding 5G technology and cell tower leases. In an article titled “Sprouting of 5G Technology Could Boost Revenue For Property Owners“. This is the second time Mr. Foster has been interviewed by CoStar over the years. In 2014 CoStar covered the transition of the leading cell tower lease expert, Mr. Foster, from what is now known as Cushman & Wakefield to starting Airwave Advisors.

Sprint T-Mobile Merger Update

Both the FCC and the DOJ have approved the proposed $26 billion merger deal between T-Mobile and Sprint. Is the merger 100% going to close? Not if over 30% of the U.S. State Attorneys have their say.

16 States, which includes New York, California, and the District of Columbia, have filed a lawsuit aimed at stopping the merger. The trial is currently set for December 9, 2019.

Just last Thursday T-Mobile applied for an experimental license with the FCC to test 2.5 GHz spectrum (spectrum they would obtain from Sprint if the merger is passed). It appears T-Mobile has a Plan B, in case the merger with Sprint does not go though.

What Does That Mean For Sprint & T-Mobile Landlords?

If you have a Sprint lease, the future is not clear. If the merger goes through your lease may be terminated, or it may be retained post merger, for instance if DISH obtains some or all of Sprint’s assets in the merger. It is in the best interest of Sprint landlords to hope that the merger does not go through.

If you have a T-Mobile lease, your lease should be unaffected and would be unlikely to be terminated as a result of the merger. Instead, at this time we are seeing T-Mobile putting off many business decisions until after the New Year (until after they have a more clear picture of their future as well).
